BigCommerce to Shopify
Migration

Escape sales thresholds, unlock a richer app ecosystem, and ship faster on a platform built for modern D2C.

Why brands leave BigCommerce

The four reasons we hear every week.

01

Sales-threshold tier jumps

BigCommerce forces plan upgrades the moment you cross GMV thresholds. A breakout sale can push you from Standard to Pro overnight — with a price jump that caught your CFO off guard.

02

Smaller app and theme ecosystem

Shopify has ~8,000 apps and a mature theme marketplace. BigCommerce has a fraction of that. For every common D2C tool — subscriptions, reviews, loyalty, bundles — the best-in-class solution is built Shopify-first.

03

API rate limits that bite in production

BigCommerce's API rate limits surface quickly when you scale — especially for headless builds, bulk inventory updates, or ERP integrations. Shopify's limits are materially higher and scale with your plan.

04

Checkout flexibility ceiling

BigCommerce's checkout customization is limited without expensive custom dev. Shopify Plus unlocks full checkout extensibility with server-side scripts, branding, and custom fields.

What transfers

Nothing gets left behind.

A real migration is more than products and orders. We preserve the long tail — redirects, meta tags, customer data, historical orders — so your team wakes up on launch day to a faster store, not a broken one.

Every BigCommerce object is mapped to its Shopify equivalent during the audit phase. You sign off on the mapping before we touch production.

  • Products, variants, SKUs and inventory levels
  • Product images, alt tags, descriptions and metafields
  • Collections, categories and navigation structure
  • Customers, order history and saved addresses
  • Historical orders with line items and fulfilment status
  • Discounts, gift cards and loyalty balances
  • SEO: URL redirects (301s), meta tags and structured data
  • Blog posts, pages and static content

The process

How a BigCommerce to Shopify migration actually runs.

01

Data audit

We inventory every entity in your current store — products, customers, orders, URLs — and map them 1:1 to Shopify objects. You get a complete migration blueprint before any work starts.

02

Staged import

We import everything into a Shopify development store. No production impact. You validate the data, we fix gaps, we sign off together.

03

Headless build

While the data migration runs, we build your new Next.js storefront connected via the Shopify Storefront API. Design, components, performance — all production-grade.

04

SEO cutover

301 redirects from every old URL to the new one. XML sitemap, schema markup, canonicals. Search rankings stay intact.

05

Zero-downtime launch

DNS change at a low-traffic window. Your old store stays online until the new one is live and verified. If anything goes wrong, rollback is a DNS flip.

06

30-day support

We stay on-call for the first month. Bugs, tweaks, analytics questions — covered.

FAQ

BigCommerce migration questions, answered.

Can we keep our BigCommerce customer accounts and passwords?
Customer records, emails, addresses and order history transfer cleanly. Passwords can't be migrated (hashes are one-way), but we trigger a branded password-reset flow at launch so customers can restore access with one click.
What about our BigCommerce Multi-Storefront setup?
Shopify Markets handles multi-region storefronts natively — different languages, currencies, pricing, and domains — all from a single admin. For true multi-brand, we set up Shopify Plus with separate stores connected via shared inventory or a PIM layer.
Will our URL and category structure stay the same?
We map every product and category URL to its Shopify equivalent and set up 301 redirects. Where BigCommerce category depth is deeper than Shopify collections, we flatten intelligently — preserving SEO value without creating dead-end pages.
Do we need to rebuild our custom fields and product options?
No. BigCommerce custom fields map to Shopify metafields, and product options map to variants or line-item properties depending on whether they affect SKU/price. We handle the mapping during data migration.
