Magento to Shopify
Migration

Move off the maintenance treadmill. Get a faster storefront, cheaper infrastructure, and a team that can actually ship features.

Why brands leave Magento

The four reasons we hear every week.

01

Crushing hosting and developer costs

A production-grade Magento 2 setup needs dedicated servers, Elasticsearch, Redis, Varnish, and a certified developer on retainer. Shopify replaces all of it — including the CDN, security patches, and platform upgrades — for a flat monthly fee.

02

Slow, fragile performance

Magento pages average 4–7s load times even after optimization. Its monolithic PHP architecture simply wasn't built for modern Core Web Vitals. Headless Shopify on Next.js ships sub-second LCPs out of the box.

03

Adobe Commerce pricing pressure

Adobe's aggressive move from Magento Open Source toward Commerce Cloud means rising license fees and a shrinking free-tier roadmap. Brands are migrating before renewal windows force the decision.

04

Shrinking developer pool

Magento-certified engineers are increasingly rare and expensive. Every small change needs specialist time. Shopify has a 10× larger developer ecosystem and modern tooling that any React dev can work in.

What transfers

Nothing gets left behind.

A real migration is more than products and orders. We preserve the long tail — redirects, meta tags, customer data, historical orders — so your team wakes up on launch day to a faster store, not a broken one.

Every Magento object is mapped to its Shopify equivalent during the audit phase. You sign off on the mapping before we touch production.

  • Products, variants, SKUs and inventory levels
  • Product images, alt tags, descriptions and metafields
  • Collections, categories and navigation structure
  • Customers, order history and saved addresses
  • Historical orders with line items and fulfilment status
  • Discounts, gift cards and loyalty balances
  • SEO: URL redirects (301s), meta tags and structured data
  • Blog posts, pages and static content

The process

How a Magento to Shopify migration actually runs.

01

Data audit

We inventory every entity in your current store — products, customers, orders, URLs — and map them 1:1 to Shopify objects. You get a complete migration blueprint before any work starts.

02

Staged import

We import everything into a Shopify development store. No production impact. You validate the data, we fix gaps, we sign off together.

03

Headless build

While the data migration runs, we build your new Next.js storefront connected via the Shopify Storefront API. Design, components, performance — all production-grade.

04

SEO cutover

301 redirects from every old URL to the new one. XML sitemap, schema markup, canonicals. Search rankings stay intact.

05

Zero-downtime launch

DNS change at a low-traffic window. Your old store stays online until the new one is live and verified. If anything goes wrong, rollback is a DNS flip.

06

30-day support

We stay on-call for the first month. Bugs, tweaks, analytics questions — covered.

FAQ

Magento migration questions, answered.

Will our URL structure and SEO rankings survive?
Yes. We build a complete 301 redirect map from every Magento URL to its Shopify equivalent — product, category, CMS and blog. Combined with preserved meta tags, schema markup, and a proper sitemap submission, most migrations see rankings stabilize within 2–4 weeks.
Can we keep our existing custom attributes and metafields?
Yes. Magento's custom attributes map cleanly to Shopify metafields. We design the metafield schema during the audit phase so nothing is lost — including configurable products, tier pricing, and customer group data.
What about our extensions and custom modules?
We audit every active extension and either (a) replace it with a native Shopify feature, (b) swap it for an equivalent Shopify app, or (c) rebuild the functionality in your headless frontend. No blind lift-and-shift.
How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?
Data migration is typically 2–3 weeks. A full headless rebuild on top adds another 6–8 weeks. Total project: 8–11 weeks from kickoff to production launch, with zero downtime on cutover.
